Teaching

My teaching philosophy centers on experiential, active, and project-based learning to build technical expertise, critical thinking, and the ability to work independently and in teams. Students work with real industry datasets, build predictive models using Python, SQL, Tableau, and Power BI, and complete group projects that simulate authentic business problems, including demand forecasting, customer segmentation, risk assessment, and systems analysis, before presenting actionable insights to peers.

Introduces the concepts and techniques of data mining and analytics for transforming raw data into business intelligence and insight, so students gain working knowledge of data mining technologies and how organizations use them for competitive advantage. Topics include data integration, data transformation, classification, prediction, clustering, and association analysis, along with the ethical issues surrounding data mining. Students work in RapidMiner and present findings from applied, team-based projects.

An introduction to databases and database management systems, covering the fundamentals of database technology, SQL, logical and physical database design, interaction with a commercial DBMS, and data warehousing. Delivered fully online with weekly optional chats, students build and query a working database using Microsoft Access and SQL.

A Manning School of Business foundation course covering the role of information systems and technology in improving organizational performance, competing globally, and gaining competitive advantage, including information management, business intelligence, business analytics, and enterprise systems, plus the social and ethical issues they raise. Students get hands-on practice with Microsoft Excel and Access to solve business problems.
